Salud y Mas en Ecuador

Blood pressure screening in Otovalo

Learning CPR in Otovalo

Community health screening in Otovalo

This is from on the the two health fairs we conducted in Guayquil.  This amazing man in front swam the Guayas River, when younger, without legs.  The Guays River is HUGE!!  We were impressed.
We got to provide four health fairs while in Ecuador; two in Guayaquil, one in Otovalo, and one in Quito.  We taught/screened around 500 people through these health fairs.  Also, while in Ecuador, we got to learn about available healthcare in Ecuador, including indiginous medicine, not only in the hospitals and community, but also in a little clinic in Otavalo.  There, we got to see diagnosis by egg and guinea pig, and also learned of the herbs and medicines used for treatment.
The healer rubbing the egg all over Sarah.  She then broke the egg into some water, and through how the egg sat in the water, was able to "diagnose" Sarah.  They then cooked the egg and Sarah ate it, to help make her whole again.

Some foods and their medicinal properties

This is a diagnostic guinea pig.  The healer rubbed the guinea pig all over Matt (who is under the towel)

This is the next step.  Yes, she had to skin the guinea pig (many detailed pictures have been left out), to observe it inside and determine where Matt had problems.  The guinea pig was quite dead after having been shook vigorously when she rubbed it all over Matt.  She was able to see, among other things, a shoulder injury in the guinea pig, which corresponded to a rotator cuff injury that Matt had suffered.

These is Matt with his healers, as well as the herbs used for healing.  Matt has a couple of bags that he is supposed to take home and have a hot bath in.
