Last Thursday night the family (including cousins) headed to the airport to welcome home my sister Annie from her summer doing service in Costa Rica with Amigos de las Americas.
Annie's the one that everyone gets along with everyone in the family, the peacemaker, the happy one, the patient one, you get the picture. So we were all excited to have her home.I'd like to put in a major plug for the Amigos organization. Since I first went in 2003 and 2004, a member of my family has done it every year since, with Annie being the latest to continue the tradition. Our family absolutely loves Amigos. The experience it provides is seriously one of the most rewarding, character-building, perspective-broadening, life-appreciating experiences I have ever had, and I think Neil, Shawn and Annie would all agree.
If you know of someone who has two years of Spanish language experience (usually it's through school), is 16 years old, and you think they might like to spend 4-8 weeks in a Latin American country doing humanitarian service, living with a host family and being immersed in both the language and the culture, let me know! Also, check out the web site to learn more about it.

I love Annie's cute shoes! She should go into business selling them.
I was so happy when she came home, and I was worrying about spotting her...
